Pick up dates are every Sunday from now until the end of the year. YOU MUST HAVE A RESERVATION FOR A PICKUP!

Not just a scooter rider......

I know, it's been so long since I posted but I have a very good excuse. Really! Once in a while I have the need to go on an adventure and this year I prepared a car to compete in the Targa Newfoundland car rally. This event takes place on a very large rock off the east coast of Canada and comprises 1,500 miles of driving on 'interesting' roads (I use the term loosely) some 500 of which are closed to the public so we can drive and compete at insane speeds.

I'm happy to report that the car performed perfectly and we managed to keep the greasy side down and steer between the ditches for the whole week. Even better, we won the event with the lowest score ever achieved in our class, just two seconds in penalties.

I wish to thank my navigator, David Fuhrmann, for his hard work and great navitating skills. It was truly a team effort.

Alas, my adventuring is now on hold for a year or so but the memories are still strong and should keep me going :)

Genuine Scooter Company

We are proud to announce that we are USA's newest dealer of Genuine scooters. These great scooters have some excellent features, sell at a sensible price and are excellent quality to boot. I'm particularly happy to get my hands on the Stella. This classic design is to my knowledge the only metal frame shifter scooter being sold in the USA. The nostalgia oozes out of its shiny paintwork!!

The first scooters arrive the first week of August. Swing by and take a look.

Our first big party turrned into a huge success, with around 140 riders in total stopping by for the event. The band played hard for several hours and apart from the food running out for about 45 minutes until the new supply arrived, all went to plan. Thanks one and all for being part of an enjoyable day.

Why I Ride to Work, By Janet Muller

True story, taken from the web:

Doubts about riding to work in the City? Yes, that was me. For many years, I would ride the oilhead to Brooklyn from Queens to catch the subway into Manhattan because the drivers and roads were so bad.

After moving to Joisey, I figured traffic would be real hell across the GW Bridge, and I had plenty of transportation alternatives within walking distance of my home, including both train and bus. I even argued the point with Andy after meeting him at Tapaco Lodge near Deals Gap one rainy night two years ago, telling him that motorcycles were treated worse than scooters in NYC.

Well, that all changed for me one afternoon a year ago in August when we had a blackout that just about shut down all transportation out of the City. With subway and rail services down and the bus terminal closed, I walked - with hundreds of others - down towards the midtown ferry, hoping to get across the river . . . eventually. It was like cattle being driven to slaughter
with crowds funneling between high fences towards the piers. While standing on the corner along 12th Avenue, the West Side Highway, I watched the idling cars with traffic controls not working/major gridlock, while motorcycles filtered along, not having to stop at all. Flagging one down, a young Irish construction worker on a Honda Shadow with Cobra pipes, I was sitting pillion - sleeveless shirt and helmetless - before he could even get the buddy pegs down. Filtering slowly through traffic, we exchanged motorcycle stories, and as we headed over the GW Bridge on that bright, sunny day, with the Hudson River and Palisades surrounding us, he swept his arm out and said to me "How could you take the train or bus instead of riding?" That was it . . . a life-changing moment.

I have since traveled each and every day, barring snow and ice, into the City, saving 90 minutes on my daily commute, enabling me to make the morning yoga class instead of sitting on the train, saving hundreds of dollars in rail and bus fees and enjoying every minute, even the bitter cold and the breakdowns. Perhaps the Joisey commuters are more considerate, or maybe Andy's license plate holder "One Less Car" helps a bit.

-Janet from Joisey

The Sachs Madass 125 picks up momentum...

The only machine we sell that has gears and a clutch is the Pierspeed Sachs Madass 125. We waited almost a year for this much anticipated machine to get to our showrooms and when they finally arrived, the recession had taken a firm grip on everyones wallets. That all seems to be changing now and the Madass has suddenly become our best seller with 75% of our stock flying out of the showroom in the past few weeks. We have more on the way and still a few in stock, so get them while they're hot !!!!

Tow vehicle failure causes havoc!

Sunday was a nightmare for us. After our first delivery for the day of winter storage scooters into the City, our tow vehicle transmission failed as we exited the Lincoln tunnel. We blocked the right lane for about 20 minutes before a Port Authority tow truck dragged us off the Helix. I called the store and had our people start rescheduling the deliveries the same day and we will be playing catch up for weeks!

As for rescuing ourselves, we decided to split the trailer off the tow vehicle and went off to rent a pickup truck to tow the trailer back to the store. We managed to park the stricken tow vehicle legally (the Port Authority tow truck had dumped us in a bus stop next to a fire hydrant) and by 1:30pm we were back at the store and dropped off the trailer, returning the pickup to Jersey City later that day.

We expect to be up and running with deliveries again in two days. I appologise to anyone who was inconvenienced by this breakdown and we will work hard to make amands.

Alan

P.S., just heard from the repair shop..... $900+ OUCH!

Upcoming Event

The town of Creskill NJ has been selected (out of many clamouring for our presence) as our venue for Earth Day, April 24th. Metro Scooter will be exhibiting a selection of Vespa scooters and will endevour to inform everyone as to the benefits of using a scooter for short local trips instead of jumping into the gas guzzling SUV.

My wife Lisa will also be in attendance to demonstrate the A2B electric bicycle and may do the one hour bicycle tour. With a range of 20 miles at a speed of 20 mph I would guess she will not be particularly tired at the finish!!

Bergen County Blue Law to be repealed?

Governer Corzine is currently pushing to have the law that prevents certain stores from opening on Sundays in Bergen County repealed. At this time we are unsure if this relates to motor vehicles. If we ARE allowed to sell on Sunday, I would appreciate if you were to let us know if you would want us to be open Sundays.

We are here for you, our customer, and will amend our hours if this suits the majority. Please email us at metroscooter@optonline.net and let us know your thoughts.

Alan.

Metro Scooter takes over Rockland County

I may be tempting fate as the ink is not yet dry on the agreement, but with the closing of Vespa Rockland in Congers, Metro Scooter is being given exclusive rights to the Rockland County sales territory by Piaggio USA Inc. As we are located merely three feet from the Border between Bergen County and Rockland County, our ability to serrve the area is assured. We look forward to being the official dealer for Rockland and helping new customers with their scootering needs.

Winter hits; time to put on the Superman cape!!

Sorry for not posting anything for soooo long but things got quite hectic towards Christmas and have only just settled down. The winter storage program hit high gear when the first big snow storm came in. The trusty Metro Scooter enclosed trailer (towed by our indestructable Toyota 4Runner) did two runs into NYC on the Saturday before the storm. It snowed hard that night and come Sunday there was a solid foot of the white stuff to contend with. I had called all my Sunday pickups to inform them that NOBODY would be riding that day and Metro Scooter would be doing individual pickups for safety reasons.

Armed with warm clothing and I snow shovel, I set off to pick up another four scooters, starting with A Vespa LX 150 and a GTS 250 on the Upper West Side. Traffic was light and thanks to 4x4 power, I made the trip down Broadway from the GWB with no problems. Getting the scooters into the trailer however was not easy as there was a two foot wall of snow by the sidewalk and the ramp into the trailer was as slippery as a New York politician! I had to actually run the motors to get them in.

Half an hour later after dodging snow plows and taking detours I was in the East Village. This time the scooter (A Chinese no-name) would not run and it took several runs to get it up the ramp.

The day was rounded off with a Kymko People 150 in the West Village then home through the Lincoln Tunnel and back to the store to unload. Easy, or so I thought. I got back to the store to find the plow guy had plowed everything onto our ramp. Out came the snow shovel again and almost an hour later I had cut a path into the store. Mission accomplished! And it was well worth the effort just to here my customer Kathleen Durkin express her gratitude and tell me what an amazing service we provide. Thanks for your kind comment Kathleen. It kept me warm that day :)
